Overview

The Nursery is committed to bringing improvisation as an art form and a way of life to the homes and communities of as many people as possible across the world.

However, we understand that not everyone has the same ability, accessibility or affordability to undertake improvisational theatre training due to a wide variety of reasons. To bridge these gaps and make our classes available to anyone and everyone who wishes to explore improv, we offer a number of scholarships, bursaries and pay-what-you-can initiatives.

Jason Chin Diversity Scholarship

We wish to make our classes more representative of the communities we serve. This scholarship supports students from protected characteristics, ethnicities and backgrounds currently underrepresented in the arts and, by extension, in improvisation.

Global Inclusion Scholarship

Over the last year our community has grown beyond the UK with students dialling in from across the world. This scholarship supports students in locations where the local currency & purchasing power limits them from paying the full price of our classes.

Financial Hardship Scholarship

Over the last year many of us have struggled with sources of income or have had to switch to alternative career paths. This scholarship supports students who are dealing with financial burdens, unemployment and being unwaged.

Scholarship via The Black Improv Alliance

As part of our partnership with the Black Improv Alliance (BIA), this scholarship supports students from the black community who wish to undertake improvisation training at The Nursery.  Applications to this scholarship are made via the BIA website.

Eligibility & Conditions

  • Each type of scholarship requires you to fill an online form. In case you have diverse access needs or would prefer to share your responses in another format, you can get in touch with us at classes@thenurserytheatre.com
  • We do not question why you’re applying to a scholarship – no explanation or justification is required. You may be asked how a particular course or class would add value to your improv journey.
  • You can apply to more than one scholarship, however, we urge you to read the target audience for each type of scholarship and choose the one most suitable for your situation or circumstance.
  • There are no specific deadlines for application and applications will be assessed as they arrive.
  • Successful applicants will be notified at least two days before the start of any course and may be contacted afterwards for a short testimonial about their experience.
