Event Details

Women’s workshops are an open and supportive creative space for women and non-binary people of all ages and experience levels.

These workshops run once a month, and they are stand-alone, so you can book one or come along every time. Each workshop is taught by a different teacher and focuses on a specific area of improvisation, and we have some exciting people lined up over the coming months!

*Please note: We are using an inclusive definition of ‘woman’ and ‘female’ and we welcome trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people.

This month is Going Solo – with Sarah-Louise Young

Have you always wanted to make a one-person show but don’t know where to begin?

Do you have a story to share but don’t know how best to tell it?

As theatres navigate new regulations and learn how to stage socially distanced events, there couldn’t be a better moment to think about making your own one person, portable, sellable show: whether it’s a play, a cabaret, improvised or scripted, it’s time to take control of your story.

Writer and performer of 6 award-winning and critically acclaimed solo shows and 5 two-handers, Sarah-Louise Young, leads a two hour online course on how to create work for the solo performer.

From choosing your initial idea to picking your perfect collaborators, Sarah-Louise will guide participants through discussion and practical exercises, helping them explore the creative process.

As well as working on the style, content and narrative elements of making your own work, she will share her experience and expertise on producing and promoting alone. The pitfalls and the practicalities of travelling light.

Participants will be asked to complete a short pre-workshop questionnaire to enable Sarah-Louise to tailor the session to their needs as much as possible.

If you already have an idea for a show she will help you find the next step in the creative journey and if you have never thought about going solo before, hopefully you will leave inspired to start now.
