Event Details

Improvisational theatre, like all theatre is about telling stories. Improvisers tend to make their own character the most important one in the scene, something which only confuses the story being told. Having an understanding of basic scene structures allows improvisers to recognise their roles and all work together telling the same story.

This workshop features a look at basic scene structures including the “arc” of a character, the hero’s journey, the comic circle as well as 2 person 3, person, 4 person and large group scene structures. Participants will explore the “plot points” needed to send a character on their journey of change and discovery as well as learn some basic techniques for playing scenes of different cast sizes. They will also have a set of tools they can use in their playing to vary the scenic dynamics in their shows from 2 person relationship scenes to full cast showcases and every size in-between.
