Level: Open
Ever watched an improv show & simply seen two talking heads in front of you? While the improv may still be great, finding a way to bring the gravitas of theatricality to scenes, whilst being fully equipped & at ease to consciously inhabit the space, adds more colour to your shows. This works for the representation of humans, objects or concepts – you name it and you can be it!
In this workshop we explore character creation via the use of the body as an instrument. We take a journey through the work of creating a character body to brain. It is an introductory look into the work of Rudolf Laban, Jerzy Marian Grotowski and other notable practitioners. This workshop will also teach a high level of general stagecraft, that can act as further tool in the toolkit of the performer, offering a grounding in which to base our scenes.
This will ultimately be put into use in scenes.
What to expect: Using a range of engaging exercises in this inclusive space, we will explore the use of body position to inform our inner world.
We will explore using the movement language of Laban and we will experiment with the different efforts.
There will be moments of reflection where we note and discuss our findings and touch upon archetypal characters that we embody.
We will use these in some character monologue moments to discover the possible voices of our positions.
