Level: Intermediate

Longform improvisation shows are not just any old group of scenes, but something that comes together as a show. Whether it tells a story, examines a theme or just ‘fits together’, long-form is both challenging and rich, an opportunity to use all that you have learnt as an improviser, to play both as a group and as an individual. It can form deep group bonds and create extraordinary moments for players and audiences alike.

Our intro to long-form course introduces you to the skills necessary to start on your long-form journey. You will learn to inspire one scene from another, begin and end scenes in inspiring ways and build a sense of collective purpose while still celebrating the diversity of minds in the group.

Course syllabus includes:

Inspiration and connecting scenes

Using theme and callbacks to bind a show together

Returning characters and how to play with them

How and when to edit a scene

An ideal foundation for both narrative and long-form improvisation. These classes will be opportunities to both expand your improv skills and connect with people from across the world, to share a laugh and build a valuable new improv skill.

(Note: Although the definition of the terms is a little complex, we generally use ‘narrative’ to describe improvisation that tells a story and ‘long-form’ to describe improvisation that examines themes and ideas. The exact boundaries between them are hard to define and many skills are useful for both. It is these skills which this course is composed of.)

Min. participants 6, max. participants 12.

If we have to cancel the event due to low numbers, we will do this with 24hours notice (and you will receive a warning 48 hours before the course if this looks likely).
