Thinking too much can get in your way, stifling creativity and happiness and even endangering relationships. Maybe you want to be more spontaneous and relaxed in everyday life, maybe you want to handle a team better and maybe you want to be more confident.
In this module, you will concentrate on responding simply and easily to what is going on around you, finding the delight, productivity and the humour in just doing. You will also learn to support and delight in other improvisers’ ideas and not worry too much about the why of what you are doing and saying, just enjoying yourselves together. You will work with gentle forms of physical and scenic improvisation to get out of your head and lose yourself in what is happening.
THE NURSERY STYLE OF IMPROV
The Nursery style of improv is founded on an emotional, theatrical style of play. You don’t have to be an actor to play like this, though it might make you into one! We believe that everyone can be an artist and it will add to your life whether you are a programmer, a nurse, a homemaker, a student or none of the above! You don’t have to have any experience of comedy, theatre or any art-form to begin. The Nursery improv courses will help with your creativity, confidence and performance skills. You will meet new people and have a tonne of fun!
At the Nursery, we are heavily influenced by the emotional truth of iO (Chicago, IL), the delight and theatricality of the Hideout (Austin, TX) and the freewheeling play of Will Luera’s freeform as performed in Boston and more recently in Florida.
The course costs £150 (or a £130 early bird price if bought at least two weeks before the first session) for six evenings 7pm-9:30pm. We also offer diversity scholarships for those who are underrepresented in the improvisation community or who would be unable to afford the course.
You can pay for this course in one chunk in full. If you are not able to do this and would like to secure your place with a non-refundable deposit, please email email@example.com.
