Our kingdom needs a hero! Corrupt knights gallop across the land extorting innocent peasants, the Witch of the Eastern Forest has lost her precious enchanted sword, and a vast and very hungry dragon has been spotted, circling in the stormy skies.
The realm only has one hope left- the ancient prophecy, many moons ago, foretold the coming of a hero, and their name is… oh, damn it all, who was it again? Join a merry troupe of bards at Ye Olde Nursery Tavern (er, Theatre), as we tell an epic comedic tale of heroism, adventure, and magic, inspired by audience suggestions. The Hero’s Journey is an improvised adventure that aims to explore, celebrate and diversify the world of high-fantasy questing, through story, song and physical theatre. It’s like if Lord of the Rings and Monty Python And The Holy Grail had a baby… then that baby led a D&D campaign, after watching The Sword In The Stone, like, eighty times.
It’s going to be fun, so come along- but please do leave all swords, longbows and wands with the enchanter at the door. Use of elemental magic on the premises strictly forbidden after last time, for insurance reasons.
What kind of improvisers are we looking for?
I am looking for a full cast of six improvisers with at least one year of experience with narrative longform, good knowledge of the genre of high-fantasy quest stories, and musical ability… and/or enthusiasm. During auditions I will also be paying special attention to good listening, supportive improv and creative thinking.
We welcome and encourage applications by performers from all sections of the UK improv community, especially those from currently under-represented groups. If you’re interested in being a part of this show, we’d love to hear from you!
Please check the schedule listed below to see if you can make most of the dates, and one of the auditions on Saturday 29th September at Deli Studios, Studio 9, and Sunday 30th September at The Nursery Training Centre, and click the button to fill in the application form by the deadline of 27th September, 5pm.
Do I have to be around the whole day for the audition?
No, you’ll be given a slot at some point between 12pm and 5pm Saturday, or 6pm and 8 pm Sunday. Feel free to spend the rest of the day however you like!
You will need to attend all or very nearly all of these rehearsals in order to be in the show.
