Level: Intermediate

Intimidated by the word ‘Game’? Unsure what it is? Worried that it might feel technical, cerebral and maybe a bit like taking an exam in front of an audience? Or confused by a class where some people seemed to just get it? This course is for those intimidated, confused or just sick of the idea of ‘Game’.

‘Game of the scene’ is as simple as a repeated, escalating pattern of behaviour, and in this one week intensive, we will unpack and demystify this wonderful improvisational idea, giving you the simple, powerful tools to identify, create and play ‘Game’ in your scenes. All without losing the freshness of the scene or the humanity of the character. You will see how there is no need to be scared of it, but that game is a natural and instinctive thing and that it is as individual as the player and as varied as improv itself. You will have lots of opportunities to create and play different types of ‘Game’ and feel more confident with the simple delights of repetition and exploring.

Workshop includes:

Identifying and creating games in your scenes

Exploring, escalating and resting games

Different types of games and when you might use them

Min. participants 6, max. participants 12.

If we have to cancel the event due to low numbers, we will do this with 24hours notice (and you will receive a warning 48 hours before the course if this looks likely).

This Intermediate level course runs every evening for five evenings from Mon 15th to Fri 19th of February, 7 pm-9.30 pm GMT.

Intermediate (3/6 months+) These classes will be opportunities to add tools to your growing toolbox. Normally these classes will expect players to be confident playing scenes. These classes will provide practice and specific new skills.

Whatever the level of ability required, all of our classes are safe, supportive environments led by our experienced teachers. Please email us if you are unsure whether a class is suitable for you. If you sign up for a class inappropriate to your level the Nursery/Maydays reserved the right to remove you from the class without refund.
