Level: experienced

The Nursery/Maydays longform electives are classes on specific aspects of longform improvisation Some of these classes focus on skills and some on forms, some on narrative ideas and some on Chicago-style longform. In these classes, students will have the opportunity to play side coached longform sets with particular focuses and feedback from the teacher.

What did one lipstick say to another? What do the mountains think of the climbers? And what really happens when you close the fridge? Big World, Small World slides between the macro and the micro, the realistic and the fantastical, looking at the world and your improv in a slightly different way.

Because human stories are not the only ones. With a dash of imagination and physicality, there are stories everywhere and they are fun to tell. In this workshop, you will learn simple, practical techniques to expand the worlds you play in and find the strange and whimsical scenes that can be played with everything that surrounds us and is inside us. Come ignite your imagination and discover the scenes which you would not normally play.

Class includes:

Playing non-human characters of all sizes and types

Playing emotions, thoughts and dreams

Moving between different character types to create a rich and complex of a world

Min. participants 6, max. participants 8.

This experienced elective runs Saturday 12th December, 4 – 6.30 pm GMT

Experienced (18 months+) A class for skilful players, especially those who have finished improv training programmes at their school and are looking to widen their horizons. These classes will make the assumption that you are comfortable performing longform improvisation and will push you.

NB: Our electives frequently sell out, but do not despair if this class has. You have not missed your shot. If enough people join the waiting list, we are often able to put the same class on a few days after or in parallel. So if you were excited, join up and we will be in touch.
