Great scenes are at the heart of great improvisation. So let’s spend some real time on them. Ideal accompaniments to the nursery long-form or narrative courses, these classes are deep-dives into particular areas of scene-work. They are also great workouts for intermediate or experienced players. Our expert teachers will give you simple, usable tools that can be employed in a wide variety of improvisation contexts. Students will work in detail on a single aspect of their scenes, receive feedback and, most importantly, get time to play, both in break out rooms and in front of the class.
Although it can be useful for newer improvisers to avoid conflict, more experienced improvisers will find that there is a lot of fun in characters disagreeing while the improvisers agree. In this class, you will find the fun of characters that can’t stand each other and are very happy to say that. You will learn to torture your characters by cooperating with your scene partner and release the power of the dark side.
Arguing productively while still looking after your partner
Finding the energy in negative characters
The differences between helpful and unhelpful negative scenes
