Level: Advanced

Learn to break down and sing any style of song as Lloydie and Joe take you on a six week musical rollercoaster ride through a diverse set of musical genres. Each week, the group will have a different musical style to get to grips with. We will focus on lyrical themes, emotional content and musical styles to help you improvise a wide variety of songs.

This course is for people with a good grasp of musical improv. You will know what a verse, chorus and bridge are and already be confident in delivering a solo song as well as a group number.

Get on board, fasten your seatbelt and get ready for the musical ride of your life!

Min. participants 6, max. participants 12.

If we have to cancel the event due to low numbers, we will do this with 24hours notice (and you will receive a warning 48 hours before the course if this looks likely).

This Advanced course runs every Tuesday evening from 6th April to 11th May, 7.30 – 9.30 pm BST.

Teacher

Lloydie James Lloyd is an improviser from Nottingham who performs with The Maydays and also with Rhymes Against Humanity – the improvised musical in Nottingham. He performs and teaches around the world and is the host of The Improv Chronicle Podcast, a documentary podcast for improvisers. Lloydie trained at UCB (New York), iO and Annoyance Theatres (Chicago) and with as many improvisers he has been able to find that keep his nerd-like passion for this artwork alive. In his spare time he sings, writes and collects nice hand lotions.

Joe Samuel is the Musical Director of The Maydays. He is a classically trained pianist and violinist and is one of only a handful of professional improviser musicians in the world. He has directed and played for a baffling array of improv troupes both in the UK and across Europe as well, as playing at IO in Chicago and being the musical director of Improv Festivals in Barcelona, Poland, Romania, Finland, Dublin and of course at the Maydays own festival.
