Friday 21st July: Impromptu Shakespeare and The Maydays’ Happily Never After

Impromptu Shakespeare create an entirely new and unique Shakespeare play, improvised on the spot and inspired by audience suggestions. Impromptu Shakespeare have their tongues firmly in their cheeks and their feet planted in the works of the Bard. Whether you know all 37 plays – or none – this is the show for you. Join them for an hour of riotous fun as the cast buckle on the Bard’s britches to bring you the plays he never wrote.

“An impressive display” – Three Weeks

“Ingenious and very funny” – Will Gompertz

Award-winning improvisers The Maydays present Happily Never After: a dark and twisted musical tale inspired by the warped imaginations of film director Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice) and The Brothers Grimm. The Maydays take you to mysterious worlds, meeting the grotesque and the innocent, and weave a fantastical tale that’s different every time. With black comedy, dynamic physicality, a bespoke cinematic soundtrack and skin-prickling songs, Happily Never After is a playful, creepy and delightfully dark experience.

“Happily Never After is hilarious. Catch it if you can!” – Colin Mochrie (Whose Line Is It Anyway?)

Saturday 22nd July: Razowsky And Munns and Class Showcase

David Razowsky is a former artistic Director of the Second City Training Centre, where he spent 21 years making things up and helping others to do the same. He has worked with companies including Boom Chicago, Steppenwolf and Dreamworks Animation Studio. He was a creative consultant on Whose Line is it Anyway? and was taught by Del Close himself. In fact, in improvisation, there isn’t that much that he hasn’t done, taught or talked about on his fantastic podcast, ADD Comedy.

In Razowsky And Munns, he is joined onstage by our very own Jules Munns, one of the founders of The Nursery. Jules plays with The Maydays, Ten Thousand Million Love Stories and Impromptu Shakespeare.
An annual event that happens sometimes more than once a year. Two actors, two chairs. More dream than fiction.

Friday 28th: Pippa Evans – Joy Provision! (preview) plus BIG NOW and The Committee

What is going on? America is being run by a stroppy, orange teenager, new wars are starting every day and now the courgettes are running out.

All’s not lost though. Olivier (as part of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical) and Chortle Award-winner Pippa Evans returns with a new show, less about how love will tear us apart but rather how the little things might just keep us together. Have your joy levels optimised by the known pleasures of “a comic genius” (Telegraph) and Radio 4 regular. As seen on Drunk History (Comedy Central) and Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled (Dave).

“The finest female character comic around” – Time Out

BIG NOW are BIG and NOW at the same time (i.e. NOW). BIG NOW are an improvised comedy group from London. BIG NOW are.

One of London’s hottest new improv groups, The Committee, present 25 minutes of hilarious, fast-paced improvised comedy – all of it made up on the spot by performers as seen on BBC One, Channel 4 and Radio 4. The audience will set the meeting’s agenda and watch as The Committee unpack the topics of the day using a montage of scenes and games. Made up of comedians, directors, screenwriters and authors, whose work can be seen across television, stage, radio and bookshelves, The Committee are a lot more exciting than they sound.
